When should I bring my pet to be seen?

It’s important to bring your pet to be seen by a veterinarian for an initial examination and at least an annual check-up, regardless of the type of pet you have. This applies to small mammals, reptiles, birds, and more common pets like dogs and cats. Regular check-ups help in the early detection and treatment of potentially life-threatening diseases, which can be less costly and more effective when caught early.

If your pet is showing signs of illness, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or a change in eating habits, it’s best to consult a veterinarian as soon as possible. Regular wellness examinations are particularly important for senior pets, as they have a higher chance of underlying diseases. If you have any specific concerns about your pet’s health, please let us know right away.

What do I need to bring for my appointment?

For your pet’s appointment, it’s helpful to bring a few key items to ensure a smooth visit. First, prepare a written list of any concerns or questions you have about your pet’s health. This can be given to the veterinary team, especially if you’re using curbside care, which is still recommended in some areas for social distancing.

Additionally, if your pet has any specific medical history or recent changes in behavior or health, make sure to note those as well. Bringing your cell phone can be useful for communication with the veterinary team, especially if they offer telemedicine services during the visit. If your pet is easily stressed, consider bringing familiar items like a blanket or toy to help them feel more comfortable.

Updates on Canine & Feline Vaccinations.

When preparing for your pet’s vaccination appointment, there are a few things to consider bringing along. For both dogs and cats, it’s important to have a record of any previous vaccinations your pet has received. This helps the veterinarian determine the appropriate vaccination schedule and identify any vaccines that might be due.

  • Vaccines For Dogs, core vaccines typically include those for rabies, distemper, adenovirus, and parvovirus, while non-core vaccines are recommended based on the dog’s lifestyle and exposure risk.
  • Vaccines For Cats, core vaccines generally include those for rabies, feline panleukopenia virus, feline herpesvirus 1, and calicivirus, with additional vaccines like feline leukemia virus recommended based on risk factors.

If you have any specific concerns or questions about your pet’s vaccination needs, it’s a good idea to write them down and discuss them with your veterinarian during the appointment. This ensures that your pet receives the most appropriate care based on their individual health and lifestyle.

“I’ve been a client since the late ’90’s. Dr. Zutrauen and her staff have provided consistently exceptional medical care to all of my cats, one of which had complex medical issues. Dr. Zutrauen managed to nurse Angus back to health on several occasions and provided him with the best care and support. My husband and I refer to Dr. Zutrauen as a miracle worker, but in truth, I think it’s her commitment to keeping abreast of the most current medical journals related to cat care that makes her superior to other vets. I wouldn’t consider taking my cats to any other veterinary clinic.”Karen Dykes
